Recycling Centres in Gainsborough — The Complete Guide
At Danum House Clearance, we provide professional, licensed property clearances across Gainsborough. While we prioritise reuse and donation, we also ensure all waste is handled responsibly through proper recycling. That includes working with the local Gainsborough recycling centre — but for many people, our service is a faster, simpler alternative.
What Can Be Recycled at Gainsborough Centre?
Gainsborough has a Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) run by Lincolnshire County Council. It accepts a wide variety of domestic waste and recyclables, with some limits.
Here’s what you should know:
Items accepted include batteries (excluding vehicle batteries and certain lithium traction batteries), books, cardboard, cooking oil (maximum five litres per vehicle per visit), fluorescent tubes/light bulbs, food tins, drinks cans and aerosols.
Also accepted are fridges and freezers (but not commercial ones or those with ammonia), garden waste, gas bottles, hardcore/rubble/soil/plasterboard (one small dustbin-full per vehicle per day in total), household & garden chemicals (max five litres per vehicle), mattresses, mixed glass bottles and jars, mixed textiles, mobile phones, paint tins, paper, printer cartridges, scrap metal, small appliances, TVs and monitors, used engine oil (max five litres per vehicle), washing machines and dryers, wood and timber, and excess general household waste.
Some limitations mean certain items are only accepted in small amounts or under specific rules. For example: the amount of hardcore, rubble, soil and plasterboard is limited.

When Recycling Centres Aren’t Enough
While the Gainsborough HWRC is very useful, it might not always be enough for every situation:
If you have very bulky or heavy items (furniture, large appliances), transporting them could be difficult.
If you're clearing an entire property (e.g. after tenants, bereavement, hoarding, fire, flood damage), using the centre may be impractical or would require multiple trips.
If you're not able to drive, or your vehicle isn’t suitable for carrying large items.
This is where Danum House Clearance helps. We collect everything from your property — whether a house, loft, garage or garden — so you don’t need to move anything yourself. We sort items for reuse or donation, recycle what we can, and dispose of the rest properly.
Fully Licensed and Sustainable
We are fully insured and registered with the Environment Agency as higher-tier waste carriers. Our team follows industry standards and best practices. Good quality items are donated where possible, and all other waste is processed through responsible recycling or disposal routes. Our aim is to minimise landfill and support local reuse and recycling networks.
