Working with Charity Shops: Clearance That Gives Back

Supporting Local Causes Through Donations
At Danum House Clearance, we believe useful items shouldn’t go to waste. That’s why we regularly donate to charity shops across the region, helping ensure that what can be reused finds a new home. We work with Phoenix Women’s Aid in Doncaster and The Salvation Army in both Doncaster and Rochdale. Books cleared from properties are often donated to British Heart Foundation shops in Rochdale, Bury, and Oldham—giving stories and knowledge another chance to be enjoyed.

Helping Wildlife with Garden Waste
It’s not just furniture and books that can be reused. On a few occasions, we’ve delivered tree cuttings and green waste from our clearance jobs to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park in Doncaster and Knowsley Safari Park in Cheshire. These donations help enrich the environment for animals and support eco-initiatives. It’s another small way we reduce waste and support good work across the region.

Clearance with Reuse in Mind
Every property we clear is assessed carefully to identify anything that can be saved, reused or donated. We don’t just clear—our goal is to reduce landfill and ensure good-quality items are kept in circulation. This approach not only benefits local charities and community projects but also helps reduce environmental impact. Reuse, recycling and responsible removal are at the heart of what we do.

When Reuse Isn’t Possible
Of course, not all clearance work can result in donations. In particular, fire-damaged and flood-damaged properties often contain items that are too badly affected to be reused or upcycled. In these cases, our focus is on safe, compliant disposal. Even then, we still look for opportunities to salvage anything that can be saved. But when it can’t, we dispose of materials responsibly, keeping client peace of mind and environmental care as our top priorities.
